Feeling somewhat nostalgic. I am in a new life season, and have made the decision to wind down a few of my passion projects that have run their course…
… after 10 years, I’m closing down my melbourne thermal camera and tool rental service (thermalcamerarental.com.au).
What started out as a blog post here in 2016, soon grew legs into a business shipping all across Australia, and even collaborating on all kinds of fun projects…
… after 8 years, I’m closing down my JGAurora/JGMaker wiki and forum (jgmakerforum.com and jgaurorawiki.com).
After an ambitious attempt at a bunnings-grade Prusa Mendel in 2012 , I bought a very unknown metal-framed 3D printer straight from china in 2015. My efforts to troubleshoot and improve these printers evolved into a collaborative relationship with the manufacturer, and even led to the start of a youtube channel reviewing 3D printers. Due to an absence of English-language resources, in 2018 I started a wiki (jgaurorawiki.com) and created a discussion forum (jgmakerforum.com), which were comprehensive reference community sites for owners of JGAurora/JGMaker 3D printers to troubleshooting or improve their printers. I had a hand at reverse-engineering, building and publishing custom firmware builds that provided polished, simple, drop-in firmware replacements (firmware.jgmakerwiki.com), across several generations of JGAurora/JGMaker printer models. I even had a go at international commerce, importing difficult-to-obtain components from china, and selling DTC via 3PL and Amazon FBA. Since these printers are now long discontinued, and the community inactive, and the printers far inferior to even the most basic models on the market today, I would rather not be responsibly for encouraging people to invest their time inefficiently…
… I’m also closing painreliefpatchreviews.com — a small vigilante passion project, debunking pricey predatory placebo pain-relief products with lab-grade scientific evidence …
… and finally, I have several clients who are retiring, and I am sun-setting their websites too.
Here’s to 2026, and new ventures ahead. 🎉
